Dating Consultation by Dr. Dahlia Keen

• The Art and Psychology Behind Dating

• Improve self esteem and interpersonal dating skills

Dr. Dahlia incorporates some techniques developed by Dr. Lynne Henderson Ph.D. , Director of the Shyness Clinic, Faculty at Stanford University.

Therapy incorporates cognitive behavioral, social skills training, coaching and brief psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy:
Develop awareness about your thoughts about yourself, others, and the situation you are in.  Deepen and understand the relationship and themes between your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and physical comfort/discomfort in situations. Treatment aims at changing behavior, reducing physical discomfort, and arousal (rapid heart beat, excessive sweating), identifying and challenging thinking patterns, and regulating unwanted emotions.

A comfortable and structured environment is provided to learn and practice dating skills and overall skill building. Role plays/simulated dating exercises and practice-dating will be offered. Video footage is offered to you to observe and evaluate your dating behavior. Immediate feedback is then offered for your benefit.

Social Skills Counseling:

Advice will be offered on interpersonal skills which relates to understanding interpersonal relations.  With this understanding, you will be more able to confidently do the right thing to attract your dating partner(s), and keep them attracted to you.  This will help you to advance professional and dating relationships to the next level.
Elements discussed include:

-planning and asking for dates,
-when to call
-what to say at early stages of dating relationship
-flirting
-verbal communication
-non verbal communication
-intimacy
-self image
-etiquette
-assertiveness training
-help with dating, speed dating and internet dating
-giving and receiving compliments

Brief Psychodynamic Psychotherapy:
This technique links early family and peer experiences to current unwanted thoughts and behaviors. This helps you to not repeat old patterns. By understanding your past and its influence on current thinking and behaving, you can see your behaviors from a different perspective and gain mastery over them, instead of being controlled by them.

We often tend to choose the wrong partner. Psychodynamic psychotherapy will teach you why you have chosen the partners that you have and how to select healthier partners. It will also help you to understand how dysfunctional lessons learned early in life influence unwanted dating behaviors, dating anxiety, commitment, and level of satisfaction.
